For Valentine's Day:
Like many people, another year has passed for me and I once again find myself loathing all the Valentine's day hype that permeates the TV and movie release landscape. So this Valentine's day, I bring you my favorite anti-love songs of all time:
Laid by James
Great ode to lust and stalker-dom, this song features an up-beat tune and an unforgettably unexpected opening verse that starts: 'Her bed is on fire with passionate love, the neighbors complain about the noises above...'
Instant Pleasure by Rufus Wainright
A true anti-love anthem, this song is perfectly blunt and straightforward: "I don't want somebody to love me, just give me sex whenever I want it..." -nuff said.
Can't Knock 'Em Out by Lily Allen
New arrival on the American music scene Lily Allen's new album 'Alright Still' is full of cheery pop melodies with a ska/reggae beat and brutally witty lyrics directed at anyone and anything that pisses her off. This song is about shutting guys down at the pub.
Orgasm Addict by The Buzzcocks
Nothing like a good song about sex addiction and nymphomania to convince you that love is overrated.
Lazy Lover by Brazilian Girls
Recently featured in a tv ad campaign, this is a stoned out lounge song about a guy who isn't satisfying his woman.
Bitches Ain't Shit by Ben Folds
No description necessary, the title pretty much says it all.
I'm Looking Through You by the Beatles
Nothing says our love is over like "You're completely dead to me" which is, in essence, the message of this great song.
Girlfriend in a Coma by The Smiths
At the same time both funny and disturbing, Morissey sings about how he could have killed his vegetative girlfriend.
Pretty Girls Make Graves by The Smiths
So Morissey is probably the only songwriter who makes this list twice, but noone sings about how bad love sucks like he does.
--If you have a good one that I forgot leave me a comment or drop me a message or something, I'd love to hear some more.
